I have an "old" unit from the late '80s / early '90s that was produced in the United States and still works great. It belonged to my aunt before she died. If we compare these made in China has exceeded unit I bought from Amazon, the old car is much quieter. I'm guessing the wheels of the engine has been devalued over time, but it is not clear, it is affecting the ability to work. Unless you are using to do each day, do not think that noise is a major contributing factor. However, I frequently reach for the old and the youngest.
